An Italian Flintlock Dragoon Pistol by Lazarino Cominazo IV. He was the
last of the Cominazo gun maker dynasty to bear the name "Lazarino".
Circa: 1730-1760. This fine dragoon shows evidence of professional
cleaning many years ago, and is still complete and in original flintlock
condition. Overall length is 21". The caliber is .60, with a 14" tapered
barrel. It has engraved steel furniture with rose pattern pommel caps.
The beautiful lock plate shows both very early style (1720-1740) and
somewhat later (1750-1760), with the attached pan and bridle. I believe
this dragoon was possibly one of a pair, the other being lost to history
in the last 250+ years. A classic example of the highly desirable flintlock
design used by gunmakers during the "Golden Age" of the Kentucky
Rifle in America.
